Towanna Henderson is co-founder and board president of the East Colfax Community Collective. She is a 29-year resident of East Colfax and a native of Detroit, Michigan with a diverse professional background in community outreach, marketing, strategic planning, and event planning.

She holds a bachelors’ degree in Mass Communications/Journalism. She has several years of community outreach/engagement experience through her work with several nonprofit organizations, Denver Public Schools, and businesses.

Towanna’s background in marketing drives her to be a strategic thinker and she approaches her work with a ‘big picture view and the end in mind. She is passionate about civic engagement and has been a certified facilitator for the Colorado Family Leadership Training Institute for several years, which is a 20-week program training families on the civic engagement process.

In addition to co-founding ECCC, she is a past board president and co-founder of an all-boys charter school in Denver. She is also on the Board of Directors for The Conflict Center and an active member of the Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger Workgroups. As founder of Beyond The Classroom LLC, Towanna values and honors the role of parents as educators is passionate about helping families to succeed in supporting their children’s success in life and academics.

She has two adult children who continue to be inspirations for the advocacy work that she does in the community.
